How to Prep for Your Boudoir Session Like a Pro

So, you’ve booked your boudoir session.

Exciting, right?

It’s time to get ready to feel like your most confident, radiant self. But let me tell you something—prep work is key. It’s the little things that make a big difference when it comes to how you look and feel during your shoot. So, grab some water (and some more lotion), and let’s get into it.

Boudoir sessions are about celebrating you. The confidence, the beauty, the magic—it’s all about stepping into your power. But let’s be honest, nerves are normal. That’s why prep isn’t just about your skin or outfits—it’s about your mindset. Here’s how to get ready, inside and out, to feel your most radiant self.

1. Mindset First: Mindfulness and Affirmations

How you feel about yourself is just as important as how you look. Here’s how to set the tone for your session:

Mindfulness:

Practice simple techniques like deep breathing or a short meditation before your session. These small moments of stillness can calm nerves, ground your energy, and help you feel present and relaxed.

Positive Affirmations:

Look in the mirror and speak to yourself with love.

Say things like:

"My body is beautiful."

"I am confident and radiant."

"I deserve to celebrate myself."

Repeating affirmations about your body and appearance helps to shift your mindset and boosts your confidence before you even step in front of the camera. Sometimes, a quick superwoman pose right before your session is all it takes to tap into your confidence. Other times, it’s about dedicating a few days to repeating affirmations—reaffirming, reminding, and reinforcing—until you don’t just believe in your beauty and strength, you know it deep in your soul, without a shadow of a doubt. But remember, it’s okay if you’re not quite there yet. The intention is to try, to show up for yourself, and to let the process work its magic. Confidence is a journey, and every step counts.

This session is about loving the skin you’re in—embrace it fully.

2. Water and Lotion: Hydration Is Queen

Think you’ve had enough water today? You haven’t. Drink more. Hydration is your skin’s best friend for that radiant glow.

Start moisturizing a week before your session, focusing on dry spots like elbows and knees. On the day of, use a lightweight, non-greasy lotion to keep your skin soft and smooth.

3. Skip the Self-Tanner

Self-tanners and spray tans can be unpredictable. Harsh lines and streaks? Not the vibe. If you’ve got a vacation tan, own it. Just know we won’t be editing tan lines, so try to blend them by adjusting bathing suit straps or switching up styles before your session.

4. Outfit Prep: Plan, Try, Share

Working with a stylist? You’re in great hands—they’ll guide you toward looks that suit your vibe.

Styling yourself? Once your outfits arrive, try them on to ensure they fit and feel right. Snap a few photos and send them my way so I can start planning your session. Your vision is my priority, and this helps me tailor the shoot to make it perfect for you.

5. Skin, Nails, and Grooming

Clean and bare-faced:

Show up with freshly washed skin—no makeup, no heavy creams. A clean canvas lets our makeup artist work her magic.

Nails matter:

Keep nails clean and tidy. Neutral tones are great, but bold colors work if that’s your style.

Wax or shave:

You know your body best, so schedule grooming in a way that works for you. Wax at least 48 hours before to give your skin time to heal, or shave the night before. If you prefer to skip grooming altogether, that’s perfectly fine too—what matters is feeling confident in your own skin.

6. Hair: Clean and Dry

Wash your hair the night before your session. Avoid heavy conditioners or styling products, and let it dry completely. Fresh, touchable hair is the perfect starting point for styling.

7. Loose and Easy: Day-of Clothing

Wear loose-fitting clothes on the day of your session. Think oversized sweaters or robes. Avoid anything tight that might leave marks (looking at you, bra straps and tight jeans!). Feel free to bring your own robe and slippers for extra comfort, but we’ve got you covered if you don’t.

8. Confidence Is the Final Touch

All the prep in the world can’t replace the magic of confidence. Practice mindfulness, speak your affirmations, and trust that you are stunning exactly as you are. You’ve put in the work, and now it’s time to let your beauty shine.

I can’t wait to capture just how incredible you are. Let’s make magic together.
